There was drama at Ndabibi shopping centre in Gilgil after bodaboda operators unleashed their wrath on one of their own after a customer complained of foul smell from him.

According to eyewitness accounts, the young lady who had been ferried by the operator to the centre started complaining immediately she alighted, attracting a crowd.

It was upon interrogation that it was confirmed that the operator only identified as Omosh was indeed in a pathetic hygienic condition.

“The jackets were very dirty with a white t-shirt turning black due to accumulation of dirt,” noted Silas Kipruto, adding that the state in which their colleague was in prompted them act saying that Omosh was prone to diseases.

A mini harambee was immediately done with the collected money being used for buying soap, clothes to change and the rest handed to him.

Area bodaboda Sacco chairman Willis Mwangi encouraged operators to maintain cleanliness to avoid such cases.

“It’s usually not in our capacity to bathe anybody in public but they provoke us to doing it because we have to ensure the customer is happy with our services,” he said.

He further encouraged young operators to join Saccos so as to have an organised way of managing their funds and daily wages.
