Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko appeared to lose his cool Saturday over protocol misunderstandings that nearly saw him nearly left out of addressing a tree-planting gathering graced by the president and his deputy at the Moi Forces Academy in Eastleigh.
The master of ceremony failed to call on the governor to address the gathering, attracting the anger of Sonko.
Sonko read malice in the glitch, shooting up from his seat after Environment CS Keriako Tobiko invited Deputy President William Ruto.
DP Ruto was forced to sit and allow Sonko to rant.
''Let us respect each other. Your Excellency, the protocol is very clear that after the anthem it is the Nairobi Governor speaking. There are people who can't believe that I am the governor of Nairobi. I should be allowed to exercise my responsibilities as governor,'' the flamboyant governor seethed.
The Nairobi governor has been in the spotlight over the squalor that the city is wallowing in.
Sonko claimed that there was a fiendish conspiracy by state house operatives to undermine him and portray him as incompetent in the public eye.
He said that he had inherited an array of problems from the administration of his predecessor and he cannot take responsibility for the deplorable state of the city.
