A middle-aged man in Munyaka estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town on Thursday caused drama after he was caught red-handed fleeing with a two-year-old baby girl.
According to the child's mother, Agnes Cherotich, she had laid her baby, Joy on the floor to complete chopping vegetables for her customers when the expected incident happen.
“I never imagined that someone would snatch my young child until I turned back to glance if my daughter was fine," said the mama mboga.
After realizing that her baby was missing, Cherotich screamed attracting the attention of locals who came to her rescue by pursuing the suspected thief.
Leonard Maina, the leader of a motorbike Sacco in the residential estate who led in the pursuit said he found the man fleeing with the child a kilometer away from the incident scene.
“We found a man walking so fast with a child covered with a cloth on his back, we tried to stop him but he turned a blind eye on us," narrated Maina.
He said that they decided to block the man and they forced him to surrender the baby.
“We managed to find Joy though the man claimed the child was his," said Maina.
“An angry mob had started to beat him up when one of them identified him and defended him saying he had a mental problem," added the bodaboda operator.
