There was drama at Maseno University on Thursday night when two male students reportedly engaged in a fist fight.
Timothy Simiyu, famously known as Timmo Stoppah, is said to have exchanged blows with Vincent Scofield Ngetich, a fourth-year student who is also one of the university’s top bloggers.
Timothy, who is the current Director of Entertainment, was taking supper at Mum's Café, one of the hotels within the university, when Vincent and his entourage came to the hotel and allegedly started hurling insults at him.
"You cannot be the secretary general and you will never be,” Vincent told Timothy.
Timothy will be vying for the secretary-general post in the forthcoming Maseno University Students’ election set to be held on February 12, this year.
Vincent is reported to have kept on insulting Timothy, telling him that he was going to lose the election and should just forget about it and surrender to his opponent Samuel Kogei.
The statement seemed to have irked Timothy who is said to have stood up and punched Vincent in the face.
Vincent fell down, a move that prompted his friends to join in the fight.
The two rival groups clashed, causing chaos at the hotel.
Two policemen who were on patrol heard the commotion and quickly moved in to calm the situation.
Vincent accompanied the police to the station where he recorded a statement. The officers said they will launch an investigation into the 9pm incident.
Tension is said to be high at the institution, with only a few days remaining to the students' election.
Cases of students going on strike have been witnessed during past elections at the institution.
