A Nyamira County Assembly member on Wednesday shocked mourners from his area of representation after he forcefully snatched a microphone from ODM Youth League Chair Dennis Marube , smashed it and ran away.
Thaddeus Nyabaro of Ekerenyo ward is said to have been unhappy with the Youth League leader who is reportedly gaining mileage following his political activities in the region.
Speaking to the reporter on phone, Marube confirmed the incident and said the MCA was tense following a successful demonstrations he staged in Nyamira to call for eviction of IEBC, a reason why area residents cheered him when he was addressing the crowd.
“I had taken the microphone not knowing that the MCA was uncomfortable with my presence. He has been tense following my rising mileage due to many activities I am involved in like the recent IEBC demos in Nyamira,” Marube said.
“I am told that he feared that I was to use the occasion to announce my candidature which is not the case. He should apologize to mourners for embarrassing innocent people who had come to share with the bereaved family,” he said.
Nominated MCA Lucy Bitutu condemned the incident terming it an act of ‘cowardice’ and challenged him to apologise to area residents.
“It’s really sad that leaders can go to an extent of snatching and even running away with microphones. This acts of cowardice should be resisted and I urge him to apologize to residents,” she said.
Nyabaro becomes the second leader to run away with a microphone in a month after area MP Charles Geni was involved in a similar incident less than a month ago.
Efforts to reach Nyabaro for comment were futile since he could not pick phone calls after several attempts by the reporter.
