A group of mourners stormed the Kisumu Central Police station and dumped a coffin at the entrance.
It was drama pact moment as they wailed, banged the station's gate and even rolled on the ground protesting the impounding of one of their vehicles and arrest of their driver.
While police maintained that the mourners were lying that they had impounded a different vehicle, the mourners insisted that the police stopped a Nissan matatu that carried the coffin.
The officers impounded the vehicle at Kisian along the Kisumu-Busia Road for flouting traffic rules.
Upon arriving at the station the mourners demanded the release of the driver and the vehicle.
They screamed at the top of their voices attracting a crowd that milled around the station to find out what was happening.
Police officers were forced to release the driver but accused the mourners of being insincere and lying to the public.
They got impatient after they were asked to pay Sh7,000 while they could only manage Sh5,000 to free those who were arrested.
Benard Omulo, the husband to the deceased said the police was delaying them simply because they had failed to raise Sh2, 000.
“If they continue holding the driver we will have to give them the coffin to store for us," said one of them said.
When the screams got louder, the police were forced to release the suspects and ordered the mourners to take the coffin away.
