Two police officers accused of stealing a vehicle they had recovered were on Thursday arrested by their seniors at the Eldoret law courts.

There was drama as the two, Julius Otieno and Zacchaeus Anindo were bundled into a waiting police land rover moments after they had left the dock.

They had been arraigned before an Eldoret Magistrate's court accused of stealing a vehicle they had recovered but did not take a plea after the matter differed to December 5.

This is after the court was told that the complainant wanted to withdraw the case.

The prosecution, however, objected to the request arguing that suspects should take a plea before any issues of withdrawal are brought before the court.

With the plea-taking differed, the court was informed that the two suspects were out on free bond but the police would be withdrawing the bond.

"Irrespective of them being police officers, as at now they are suspects in a criminal matter and should be in our custody since nobody is above the law. We have no option but to follow the rule of law," said Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga who supervised the arrest.

The matter will come up for mention on December 6.
