A middle-aged man escaped death narrowly after Menengai police saved him from angry residents who wanted to lynch him.
The suspect identified as Hillary Kiplagat was cornered by area residents allegedly in the company of four others who managed to escape, stealing household items.
He almost got torched.
However the men in uniform had a hard time in dispersing the mob baying for his blood.
Morop area chief Susan Choi confirmed the incident saying “the suspect had been beaten thoroughly”.
“They (residents) accused him of stealing household items, bags of charcoal, chicken and goats,” Soi added.
A resident, Christopher Kipkorir said: “He has a history of stealing and running away for three to four months. Once he is seen around this area, something must happen”.
