There was drama on Saturday when Nairobi's Governor Sonko fired warning shots at members of his cabinet, saying that they had to deliver for the people of the city or pack and leave.

The flamboyant governor that his not-so-excellent academic credentials would not be an excuse for his administration as members of his cabinet were well-educated individuals.

''They have said that Sonko is not well-educated but members of my cabinet are people with impeccable academic credentials. They are technocrats. They are elites. They should work or they will go home,'' Governor Sonko said.

He spoke after attending a tree-planting function at the Moi Forces Academy in Eastleigh that was graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

His strong words come in the context of mounting pressure and bad publicity over the deplorable state of the city.

Sonko has battled hard to remove the perception that he is not working.
