A 29-year-old man on Wednesday forced a standard six girl whom she was accused of cohabiting with for the last two weeks to take poison so as to evade being arrested by the police.
The suspect identified as Hillary Kiptanui and the minor were found unconscious in his house when officers broke in at Muno village, Keiyo North.
The two are allegedly said to have taken mites poison immediately the police stormed at the man's house after complaints from the neighboring residents.
They were however rescued at taken to the hospital.
Area police boss Mwenda Meme said the two are being treated at the Iten referral hospital.
“He is being guarded by police officers at the hospital. We are preparing to charge him as soon as he recovers from the poisoning,” Meme said.
He further revealed that the suspect is also wanted for assaulting a 70-year-old woman who had threatened to report the matter to authorities.
The woman who sustained injuries on her right hand after the assault said she had asked the suspect to release the minor and warned him that she would report the matter to the area chief.
“He had locked himself and the minor in the house and declined to open when our officers arrived. Our officers broke in and found the duo unconscious. They had just taken a bottle of acaricide,” noted the police boss.
