There was drama at a business premise in Eldoret town on Friday after a tenant intentionally locked his landlord in a toilet for several hours.
According to a private security officer at the building who identified himself as James Munene, the landlord had visited the toiled to respond to the call of nature when the unimaginable incident happened.
“My boss had come to check if the tenants’ affairs had been sorted before he decided to respond to a call of nature in the toilet before an angry tenant locked the toilet with his padlock," narrated Munene.
He said that before his boss visited the toilet, he had sent him to go clear some electricity bills at the Kenya power offices where he stayed for about two hours.
“I went immediately as ordered by the landlord, on reaching the office there were long queues and I had to wait on the queue for about two hours before i returned to my workstation," noted the security guard.
“On arrival, I found a rare crowd staring at the locked toilet and at this point is when I realized my boss had been locked in for all those hours I was away," he added.
The culprit who had locked his landlord in the toilet was later identified as the one that was operating a photocopy shop at the building who defended his action saying the landlord had turned down a grievance that was affecting his business.
“The putrid odor from the toilet is scaring my clients away making the business unfavorable yet the landlord keeps asking for rent at the end of every month without fixing this issue i have raised with him on several occasions," said the photocopy shop owner who sought anonymity.
The landlord was later unlocked from the toilet but declined to comment on the incident.
