There was drama in a Mombasa Court on Tuesday after two men claimed to be the biological fathers of a 16-year-old girl.
The court heard that the girl’s mother is reported to have procured two different birth certificates.Ms Maureen Atieno, 32, was arraigned in court to answer to charges of false procurement of the birth certificates in 2000 and 2014.Atieno is accused of procuring the certificates using the names of two different fathers.The two birth certificates which were presented before the court as evidence had different dates of birth and surnames of the child.The documents showed the girl was born on 4 September, 2001 and 23 November, 2002 respectively.Atieno’s first husband, Alfred Otieno, told the court they got married in 2000, had the girl and even procured a birth certificate for her in 2001, but they separated in 2013 over domestic issues.The court further heard that Atieno later got married to Charles Odero who changed the details of the birth certificate to indicate he was the biological father of the girl.Awiti, however, insisted that the second husband is the biological father of her daughter, Baraka FM reports.The case will be heard on June 27.
