There was drama at a street in Nakuru yesterday after a man who has been posing as a beggar was busted by his wife who has been investigating him. According to a witness, Deborah Atieno, drama started after the wife of the fake beggar accompanied by their two children confronted the man at Total petrol station along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway and demanded to know why he has been lying that he is employed by a reputed company in the town. The witnesses said the fake beggar, who has been posing as a blind person, has been operating at the venue for the last two years and was always in the company of a street boy. According to the witnesses, the enraged wife told members of the public that she had been very suspicious after failing to trace her husband at the alleged place of work on several times and failing to reach him on phone during day hours. “She said she started trailing her husband from their home in Kiambogo after hiring a motorcycle taxi and trailed his car," said Atieno, who sells fruits near the venue. "She said he parked the car at the petrol station and after some time he was accosted by a young man who escorted him at the begging venue after he changed into dirty clothes and applied some substances on his face." Another witness, Moses Njuguna, a boda boda operator operating near the area, said the man was angry at his wife for exposing a trick that feeds her and the children. He said the fake beggar promised to divorce her. “He was very annoyed and even told members of the public that a right thinking wife cannot expose her husband’s secrets. He said his wife should have gone back home and discuss the matter with him," saidNjuguna, adding that the couple and their children drove off in the family car and left the curious members of the public.
