Drama unfolded today morning along Nakuru - Subukia road after a pregnant woman gave birth in a matatu as she was being taken to Nakuru General Hospital by a relative. According to an eye witness Mary Wamboi who was traveling in the matatu plying towards Nakuru town, the middle aged woman started wailing and caused a commotion in the public service vehicle to the amusement of other passengers. She said the matatu crew sensing danger tried to over speed but the pregnant woman's cries intensified prompting other women in the vehicle to request the crew to divert to a road side in order for them to assist the pregnant woman. “The matatu crew obliged to the women’s request and requested other passengers especially male ones to board another matatu. At least five women in the matatu came to the woman’s rescue and she delivered a baby boy after about half an hour,’’said Wamboi. She added that the matatu crew demanded for money to ferry the woman and her Good Samaritan to the hospital at a higher fee arguing that they had done her a ‘big’ favour. A tout operating at Bismak matatu terminus along Nakuru -Nyahururu where the incident occurred said the strange happening attracted a curious crowd of members of the public some who thought an accident or robbery had took place.
