The 63year old Rose Njoki was brutally murdered by her son Geoffrey Mathenge two weeks ago, burned and buried in the car garage adjacent to her house.

The decaying body was later discovered and exhumed by residents almost one week later, an act that raised public outcry leading to the arrest of the culprit.

The motive of the killing remains unknown but the police launched investigations which are still ongoing as the suspect remains in custody.

However, drama ensued during the burial, causing confusion among mourners when area MP Ferdinard Waititu, who was in attendance, invited the deceased’s relatives to address the mourners.

One of the brothers, identified as James Gitonga, threatened to name the suspects behind the killing of their kin and handed the name to Waititu, who was addressing the crowd.

“I have the name of the person behind the killing of our sister. Mathenge is in jail for no reason as the main culprit behind the murder is here. We know who planned all these and we now know the reason,” Mr Gitonga said, as he handed over the paper bearing the name, to the legislator.

According to Mr Gitonga, it is alleged that Joseph Njenga, the husband to the deceased, who was also present, plotted the murder and connived with his son to kill the mother.

“We have every detail of how Njenga planned for the killing and only used his son to get away with it. It all started when our sister wanted a share of the land that they jointly own. He killed her to deny them of their rightful property,” Gitonga alleged.

Activities came to a brief standstill as commotion heightened with some people chanting choruses to ‘have the truth uncovered’.

However, the security personnel calmed the situation as the MP continued to address the gathering, urging them to calm down

“The suspect was arrested and is still in custody. If anyone has information regarding the killing, let them report to the police to assist in investigations. I personally went to see him and he confessed to me that he committed the crime out of what he doesn’t understand, and has committed several offences of such nature. We would like to maintain peace and create no room for speculations since this is a police case,” Waititu said.
