A free-for-all drama has unfolded in Waberi ward, Garissa county after a bride-to-be ran away from their home in unclear circumstances.
The bride-to-be, who was only identified as Halima, escaped unceremoniously jolting the whole family into confusion.
Speculation is rife that the lady was opposed to a decision by her parents who want to marry her off to a man whom she has no interest in.
She was heard vowing by her close friends not to settle down with a man whom she described as "old" and " poor".
The commotion at their residential home pulled huge, curious onlookers who discussed the issue in hushed tones.
A resident who identified himself as Mohamed wondered why the girl was pressured to accept uninterested marriage while acknowledging her inherent rights to make an independent decision as mature person.
" I think the parents of the lady are unfair. Every mature person has the inherent right to make his/ her independent and conscious decision. Forced marriage is anachronistic in this 21 century," quipped the resident.
Efforts to unravel the whereabouts of the lady are underway, as the families and the relatives are optimistic about finding her.
