Drama unfolded on Saturday at Malinya Market, after a group of villagers clashed with police officers before a planned president’s rally.
The incident occurred at the sportsground usually used to host bullfighting contests, when a group of villagers went to the field with bulls.
This sparked confrontation with police officers deployed to guard the venue ahead of the scheduled visit by President Kenyatta.
The officers however allowed the villagers to carry on with their bullfighting contest for about an hour before the arrival of President Kenyatta and his team.
Addressing a rally at Bukhungu Stadium, Kenyatta promised to improve different sectors in the region.
He said his administration has improved transport by roads by tarmacking of 250km of roads, and provided medical equipment worth Sh800 million to Kakamega County Referral Hospital and Malava sub-county hospital.
The president toured different areas of the region, even though his plans were changed after intelligent reports indicated expected hostilities in some areas.
An earlier itinerary had indicated that the President would tour Matungu, Mumias, Butere and Khwisero before the change.
