The Wednesday evening session was disrupted when Diff Ward Rep Shueb Bare took the mace and ran away with it out of the House.

The Speaker was reading through the day’s order when the chaos started after a section of the members failed to agree on the choice of the representative of the Assembly Service Board.

The members accused the Speaker of going against their decision as the members had chosen Mr. Bare to fill the position.

Mr. Bare said the majority of the members had nominated him for the position adding that the Speaker was going against their choice.

The Ward rep accused the county assembly speaker of attempting to influence the member’s choice.

“I decided to take away the mace because I could not withstand the bullying and bulldozing by the county assembly speaker since he tried to influence the nomination of the representative of the board against the assembly members’ choice,” said Mr. Bare as quoted by the Daily Nation.

The County Assembly Majority Leader Mohamud Gabane said that he personally chaired an earlier meeting that decided on Mr. Bare as their favorite member for the position.

“The county assembly Speaker should not indulge in party affairs. The members had selected Shueb Bare as their favorite member for the position,” said Mr. Gabane.

The House sergeant at arms together with the security officers returned the mace to the assembly but the session ended unofficially.
