A matatu driver and his conductor were arrested on Monday in Mtwapa for playing obscene music videos.Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) and the National Police Service arrested the two for showing obscene content in a Public Service Vehicle (PSV).KFCB Coast region manager Bonventure Kioko said the board has launched a crackdown on PSVs in Mombasa that are showing obscene content.Kioko said they have received numerous complaints from passengers that some of the matatus are playing obscene music video.A passenger who was on board the matatu, christened ‘2 Proud’ sent a text message to KFCB and the board together with officers waited for the matatu whose registration number had been noted.The matatu was stopped at the Mtwapa roadblock leading to the arrest of the driver.The conductor who tried to escape was also arrested by the police.Mr Kioko said matatus plying the Mtwapa-Mombasa, Tudor-Ferry and Bamburi-Ferry routes were among the ones showing the obscene content.“The crackdown on Public Service Vehicle showing obscene content has begun. These matatus are playing pornographic videos,” said Kioko.“We would like all matatus to have their TV screens removed because they have failed to show decency,” he added, as quoted by the Standard.The manager said the two who are being detained at Mtwapa police station will be arraigned in court to answer to charges of exhibiting unclassified video content.
