A Nissan matatu driver was sentenced to three months in prison or pay a fine of Sh10,000 in Limuru court for the offense of driving without a licence.
Peter Kariuki was arrested by traffic police officer manning the Nairobi-Nakuru highway at Kiboko hotel area, and was not able to present the document when asked by the police.
He was arraigned at the Limuru law courts Monday morning, where he requested for the charges leveled against him to be read to him.
After listening keenly, Kariuki pleaded guilty to the charge of driving without a licence, before Limuru resident principal magistrate G.H. Oduor.
“Following that you accepted to have committed the offence of driving without a licence, I sentence you to three months in prison or pay a fine of Sh10, 000,” said Magistrate Oduor.
Kariuki was later escorted outside the court room and into the offenders waiting cells, from where he would decide whether to pay the fine or be imprisoned.
Those in court following the court were shocked by the honesty of the driver, saying many accused persons would normally refuse committing the offence that would result to a long court hearing.
