Several drivers whose tires were damaged during yesterday's protests in Mlolongo town within Machakos County have filed their complaints with the police.
This was disclosed by Athi River police boss, Mutoro Kizito, who said the drivers had recorded statements at Mlolongo Police station and that his officers were following leads to bring to book the culprits who were still at large.
"We as the police are well informed that several vehicles had their tires flattened during yesterday's demonstrations in Mlolongo town given that the victims have raised complaints and recorded their statements," said Kizito.
The officer who addressed the press in Mlolongo town yesterday referred to the drivers as victims of circumstances arguing that the trucks which were packed on the road had had nothing to do with the demonstrations.
He said that those who were behind the incident were goons who were out to paralyze transport on the road, they deliberately interfered with the businesses of innocent Kenyans, and had breached the peace of the town.
Kizito said that he and his officers would stand firm and keep vigil to ensure that the residents, entrepreneurs and travelers, general public and their property would be protected from such groups of individuals.
He called on the youth to engage in more meaningful, productive activities which would keep them busy and allow them to earn livelihoods instead of allegedly allowing themselves to be used for the self-interests of other individual.
The police boss warned that those behind the incident would be dealt with accordingly, not as a group but as individuals to ensure that the victims got justice.
