NTSA has announced plans that will see all drivers attend classes yearly in a move aimed at curbing road accidents.
NTSA director general Francis Mejja on Friday said drivers will have to undergo First Aid and courtesy lessons.
He said the program is set to start from January 2018 to bring professionalism in driving.
“We have amended the program into a professional driver course. All drivers will have to go for training annually and take a course once in a year,” he said.
Mejja said such programs have been successful in other countries and same will have to be done in Kenya.
“In other countries, people are proud of being drivers but in the country, I am sure they are proud enough,” he said.
According to Mejja, major causes of accidents are drink driving, speeding, illegal matatus operating and pedestrians crossing the roads.
“If we are to stop road clashes, we should start seeing changes with drivers because they are the people in charge of the vehicles they are driving,” he noted.
