Drivers using the Nyamira-Kisii Road are now calling for the National Transport and Highway Authority to ensure that the roads are marked properly to avoid the rising number of accidents.
Various drivers interviewed blamed the continued road carnage on lack of road signs along the busy highway.
According Evans Orang’I, a driver along the highway, the road was initially marked but now most of the signs do not exist, making it even tougher for new drivers on the highway to know where there are sharp turns, zebra crossings and even school junctions.
“We have always witnessed various accidents along the highway and most of them have been caused due to lack of road sign for both new drivers and existing drivers in this road,” he added.
Evans attributed the situation to corruption, saying that road contractors were duping the residents by using the wrong paint meant for houses to mark roads thus fading out in less than a year after application.
The driver also called on users along the highway to exercise caution while using roads and to respect other motorists and road users by observing traffic rules and regulations.
When we tried to reach the National transport and Highway Authority area officials the call went answered.
