The Kenya National Driving Schools Association led by its Chairman John Mwatha has praised the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to withdraw National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) from the roads.
The President while in Meru during the burial of three bishops killed in a road accident along the Embu- Mwea highway said that NTSA officers should be withdrawn from the roads with immediate effect.
This was as a result of increased public outcry over the incompetence of the safety authority.
Speaking to journalists in Nakuru on Wednesday, Mwatha said that NTSA officials did not have any training to conduct what he termed as traffic operations on the roads.
“I am fully supporting the President for getting NTSA off the road. I want to say that these officials have never undergone any training, it is by sheer luck that none of the officials was killed operating on the roads,” Mwatha said as quoted on Citizen Fm.
Mwatha further said that driving training institutions that were closed by NTSA early last year should be reopened so as to reduce the cost of transporting students to Machakos and Thika for assessment.
“Driving schools we have so many challenges, we want those schools that were closed be reopened with immediate effect,” Mwatha added.
Kenyans have shown support for the President’s directive to withdraw NTSA from the road with many saying that the safety authority has done very little to reduce road carnages in the country.
