Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan has told ODM party leader Raila Odinga to shelve his presidential bid and endorse Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the country’s top seat.Omar said Kalonzo is best positioned to unite Kenyans than any other National Super Alliance (NASA) principal.“History speaks for itself,” he said in Mombasa on Tuesday at a meeting attended by Muslim Imams from Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Taita Taveta counties.“Every Kenyan knows how politically neutral Kalonzo is. He is the best candidate to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta in August,” he added.Omar, who is eying the Mombasa Gubernatorial seat spoke a day before the five NASA principals meet at Uhuru Park to officially announce the opposition candidate who will fly the coalition’s presidential flag during the August 8 polls. On Thursday, the five NASA leaders- Raila (ODM), Kalonzo (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Chama Cha Mashinani’s Isaac Ruto will at a rally in Nairobi’s Uhuru Park announce their presidential line up ahead of the August election. There has been heated debate over who among the five will fly the presidential flag to take on Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto during the elections to elect State House’s next occupant. On Monday, local media reported that Wiper Party was pushing hard for Raila to endorse Kalonzo for presidency following an agreement the two signed together with Wetangula before the 2013 elections.According to the deal, Raila was to support Kalonzo’s presidential ambition in 2017.
