The National Drought Management Authority on Thursday donated generators to residents of Kalengelesa and Wargadud areas in Mandera County in a bid to boost water supply.
According to the agency's official Isack Adan Hapicha, the two generators worth Ksh 4.4 million is meant to help pastoralists who mostly occupy the area to water their animals following incessant drought spells.
"We have issued out two generators to residents of Kalengelesa and Wargadud in a bid to bolster water supply to them and to enable them water their animals. There are existing boreholes that will provide the water to be pumped", he said.
Mandera and other counties that dot the Northern Kenya region have always been hard hit by perennial drought spells that at times kill their animals, their main source of livelihood.
