A newly set up Community Based Drug addiction Counselling and Treatment Centre in Lanet, Nakuru County aims at mitigating the souring drug and alcohol related socio-economic challenges among locals and other Nakuru residents.
Lanet Chief Francis Kariuiki said this during the commissioning of Lanet Serenity Place Counselling and Treatment Centre in the area today (Tuesday).
According to Chief Kariuki, many socio-economic problems related to drug abuse and alcoholism among youth, women and adults in many parts of the country can be mitigated if community based counselling and treatment centres are set up.
He observed that poverty, diseases, hunger, unemployment, domestic violence and crime are some of the many socio-economic challenges that are promoted by drug addiction and abuse among many classes of people.
“I urge Nakuru County residents who have drug addiction and abuse problems to visit this centre. In particular I appeal to Lanet residents who know of people with this kind of problem to advise them to visit here because they may save their lives from this destructive habits,’’ said Kariuiki.
The centre that is being sponsored by various health linked Non-Governmental Organisations will also seek services of local professionals and interns in counselling and community development.
