A Kenyan drug baron was on Tuesday arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The 50-year-old man was apprehended after being found in possession of cocaine valued at approximately over sh5 million. The man identified as Carey Maboya was also reported to be in possession of both a Namibian and a Kenyan passport and was nabbed at the international arrivals bay.
The youthful man is said to have arrived from a Brazil town, Sao Paulo, aboard an Ethiopian airline. Maboya has since emitted over 51 pellets of the illegal drug. Airport police said the suspect has been put on observation under a heavy watch of the police.
Joseph Ngisa, the airport DCI boss, acknowledged that the man had only travelled once to the South American country as per the available information.
"So far he has emitted over 51 pellets of the outlawed narcotics and we are still watching on him patiently until he finishes the process," said Ngisa.
The Kenya Police at JKIA have recently made several arrests and related seizures of drugs believed to be on transit. A good number of the narcotics that are captured are mainly cocaine and heroin.
Available statistics reveal that the airport police have so far seized drugs with a valuation of more than sh100, ooo, 000 in the last one year. Most of the arrests comprise of passengers on transit originating from South America and the Asian countries.
