Moses Nzeki from Kivingoni Sub- location, Yatta Sub-County in Machakos County appeared before the Kithimani Courts Magistrate Martha Opanga facing charges of possession of 14 rolls of bhang worth 300 shillings with the intention of selling to the public.

Following an afternoon hearing on Tuesday, Nzeki was found guilty by the resident magistrate and handed the prison sentence. He also faced accusation of resisting arrest which he too pleaded guilty.

“Drugs affect communities negatively and have a negative impact on the lives of the individuals who use them frequently. The accused has pleaded guilty to the charges and he is therefore accorded an 8 month sentence,” said the magistrate.

She said that the sentence was a warning to those indulging in the illegal act as the law will soon catch up with them.

This follows a routine inspection by the officers of Matuu police station that was conducted on Monday night at Kivingoni village in Yatta Sub-County, which had 2 drug dealers houses stormed where one managed to escape according to Yatta police boss Edward Kipsang.

Nzeki has been given fourteen days to appeal to the court in which on the contrary would serve the 8 months.
