Gatuanyaga ward representative Cecilia Mwangi has urged area youths to shun alcohol abuse saying it will ruin their lives.
Speaking at Gatuanyaga trading centre on Thursday, the MCA said that a section of youths are abusing drugs.
Mwangi confirmed having received intervention calls from a section of parents whose teenagers have been lured into drug abuse.
“I have been receiving complaints from parents and guardians that their children are being lured into drug abuse. I would like to ask the county government to help us solve the problem,” she said.
The MCA alleged that youths are being used to ferry the drugs from one destination to another.
Mwangi asked the county security officials to investigate and deal with the people allegedly using teenagers to commit crime.
She noted that many teenagers are dropping out of school because they have been addicted to drugs.
“We must find ways to save this generation that is being consumed by drugs,” she said.
The MCA urged the county to help rehabilitate some of the addicts who she said are in poor state.
The Gatuanyaga MCA noted that drug abuse has caused rise in crime and other social evils like prostitution.
She said that the young generation needs to be saved from the claw of drug abuse and prostitution.
