Kisumu Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Joshua Omukata has warned Bodaboda operators who ride under the influence of alcohol, especially at night.
Omukata reported that a spot check conducted in the town’s major Bodaboda stages revealed that most operators drink and ride especially at night.
Speaking to the press in his Central Police Station office on Tuesday, Omukata said that most accidents caused by the Bodaboda operators are as a result of drunk riding.
He said that many people have lost their lives and those of loved ones due to carelessness caused by drunk Bodaboda operators.
“Most of these Bodaboda operators have the tendency of flocking liquor joints then proceeding on with their work, said Omukata.
He added that the behaviour is really dangerous as it leads to careless riding by them hence endangering the lives of their customers adding that a stern action was going to be taken against the drunk operators.
He announced that police will commence the inspection of Bodaboda operators Kisumu City and its environs.
At the same time, police in Kisumu have asked Bodaboda operators to ensure that they have their driving licenses and at least two helmets to avoid confrontation with the police.
