Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Joshua Omukata noted that the number of residents driving at night under the influence of alcohol has risen in the last two months.

Speaking to the press today, Monday in his office, the traffic boss said that last weekend, a total of 48 drivers were arrested after failing the alcoblow test.

“We have noticed that the number of drunk drivers in Kisumu has really gone up with dozens of drivers being arrested every weekend,” said Omukata.

“Today, we released 21 drivers who were arrested over the weekend with the other 27 waiting for a judicial action tomorrow,” he added.

Omukata appealed to the residents to avoid overdrinking while driving, or hire qualified drivers to drive them home once they are drunk.

He further appealed to both the national and county assemblies to enact tough bills that could bring sanity onto the roads.

He challenged the lawmakers to enact laws that could see the lives of many residents protected and saved.
