Police are investigating a case in which a woman allegedly killed her twin babies on Saturday night at her house in Soweto Highrise village in Kibera.
Dorothy Kwamboka, a mother of six is alleged to have ‘accidentally’ suffocated her three months old babies when she laid on them in her bed while under the influence of alcohol. Her husband Mr Joseph Ongecha, who was away attending his normal night shift duty as a security guard in the CBD, received a rude shock as he stepped into their bedroom Sunday morning.
“I came in the morning from work and found my house in a mess; walking into my bedroom, there laid my two lifeless babies trapped under the body of their drunken mother. At first it was hard to believe that they were dead until my neighbours who responded to an alarm confirmed so,” said Mr Ongecha who was still in shock.
Police officers led by Corporal Peter Kiambi that saved Kwamboka from the wrath of the residents who wanted to beat her. She was immediately taken to Highrise Administration Police post, locked up temporarily before being transferred to Capital Hill Police station pending further investigation.
Ongecha confirmed that they had lost a child in a similar situation three years ago. He narrates that his wife was fond of going out with her colleagues at night while he is away for work as night guard.
“Three years ago she killed another baby under a similar situation. It has become her habit to go out on a drinking spree with colleagues as I am suffering in the cold as a watchman just to make ends meet,” he said.
He reiterates that it has been hard to reform her wife who has gone out of character for a long time since they began their marriage.
