National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale has advised the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party to play its role of putting the government in check.
Mr Duale said following the meeting between opposition leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM should be named the official opposition party.
The Garissa Township MP, speaking to journalists on Saturday in Garissa, said the opposition’s main role is to question the government and hold them accountable to the public.
Mr Duale said the opposition party should provide constructive criticism where necessary and to ensure that Jubilee administration deliver its promises.
“Let ODM act as the official opposition we Jubilee act as ruling party. ODM as a party has resilient leaders who could check and hold the Jubilee administration accountable to ensure it delivers its mandate to Kenyans,” he said.
Mr Duale further said that the opposition and the government could have different opinions and ideologies but they should work together to unify the country.
“For the interest of the country and for our people let us now follow the examples of the two leaders so that on matters of national interest we speak the same language,” Mr Duale added.
