The bitter contest in the build up to next year’s elections and particularly the Garissa legislative space once again resurfaced on Saturday; with the incumbent Aden Duale warning his rivals to prepare for a humiliating defeat come 2017.
In what could be seen as an attack on his greatest political rival Farah Maalim, Duale said the former Lagdera MP is just but a village politician with nothing new to offer town residents.
“Aspiring politicians who have failed as members of Parliament during their latter days in rural constituencies have no place in Garissa. We welcome them but they should know they are digging their own political graves. They will burn their fingers,” Duale said.
Duale hinted that he was very confident that he will eventually emerge the winner for the third consecutive term, saying only performers can win the hearts of the electorate.
However, the MP urged his constituents to elect visionary leaders who have clean development records and not to rewind failures whose terms in office never gave birth to any visible benefits.
