After Kenyan's Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed lost the AU Commission chairperson election, National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has finally spoken.
The vocal Jubilee allied politician was among those who accompanied Mohammed to the AU summit in Ethiopia, and he showed his disappointment after Amina failed to clinch the seat.
Duale has however blamed former UN Secretary General Koffi Annan and France for being behind Amina's loss, saying they largely contributed to her downfall.
According to the Star, Duale claimed the former secretary favoured Chadian Moussa Mahamat, who won the seat after a long battle.
“A number of issues were at play. I even saw a group of activists led by Koffi Annan at the ICC discrediting our candidate," he claimed on Tuesday, January 31 as quoted by the Star.
He further claimed that france campaigned for Mahamat, and their influence forced some countries to abstain from voting.
Kenya garnered 27 votes and Chad 26, while one country abstained in the fifth round in the sixth round, Chad got 28 votes and Kenya 25, while one head of state abstained.
The election took place during the 28th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa which ended yesterday, Tuesday.
