National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale now wants a national dialogue conference to discuss how to reduce the bloated governance structure in the country.

He was reacting to a last week’s bloated wage bill report by the budget committee recommending that the senate be scrapped or strengthened.

“This country must face the reality. We must ask ourselves how many MCAs or wards do we require. There are close to 800 nominated MCAs, are they important?” posed Duale.

He noted that after the elections, there will be need to go back to Bomas and have a dialogue on the wage bill, noting that he will see close to 60 per cent of the wage bill revert to development.

He supported the draft proposal by  Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) that was presented to the president on the reduction of the salaries of public servants.

The SRC had complained that 50 per cent of the country’s revenue was gobbled by a mere 2 per cent of the Kenyan population, through salaries and allowances of public and state officers.
