National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has revealed plans to file a motion before the House in January next year to remove Justice George Odunga.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Duale questioned Justice Odunga’s fairness in ruling on cases filed by Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord), saying his position as a judge is questionable.
“I would like to warn Justice Odunga that when the National Assembly resumes on January 24, I will table a motion to discuss his conduct,” said Duale.
Duale’s sentiments were as a preemption of the outcome of a case filed by Cord early Thursday seeking to stop the National Assembly from discussing amendments to the Election Laws, to allow integration of manual systems in the next elections.
Justice Odunga, however, dismissed Cord’s application saying he can only rule on the outcome of the special sitting.
The amendments which have since been passed by Jubilee MPs who remained in the National Assembly after Cord MPs walked out, will allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to resort to manual identification of voters and transmission of results when electoral systems fail.
Cord MPs walked out over apparent safety concerns claiming that Jubilee MPs had entered the chambers with guns and pepper sprays to stop them from opposing the motion.
Cord, has however, expressed their opposition to the amendments alleging it was a plan by Jubilee to rig the elections.
“We will not allow the Election Law to be changed and if they do so, we will not allow elections to be held in 2017,” said Raila Odinga.
