Speaking after meeting representatives of the Kenya Deaf Community in Nairobi on Tuesday, the Garissa Town Member of Parliament vowed to represent the group's interests to the relevant parliamentary committee.

Hundreds of leaders from the community had marched to the parliament buildings and presented the leader with a memorandum so as to be granted equal opportunities as the remaining group of Kenyans, with Duale promising to convey their request to President Uhuru Kenyatta as well.

''Interacted with hundreds of people representing The Kenya Deaf Community who had marched to Parliament Buildings to present a memorandum so as to be granted equal opportunity for the deaf persons in Kenya,''said Duale in a tweet.

''I will be sending the memorandum to President Uhuru Kenyatta and present a petition on their plight to the National Assembly through the committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunity,'' he added.

There are over 2.1 million people in Kenya who are deaf or living with hard hearing conditions according to the 2011 disability report by the World Bank and the World Health Organization (WHO).
