National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has slammed Cord leaders for suspending the anti-IEBC demos.
Instead, Duale wants the Opposition leaders- Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, to stop the protests completely and apologise to Nairobi residents and the whole country.
He also asked them to take responsibility for the deaths, injuries, looting and destruction of property in the last three weeks.
“Cord should never have gone to the streets in the first place. They should not just suspend the violent demonstrations; they should stop them forthwith and apologise…” said Duale on his Facebook page Wednesday.
“They have proved - if any proof were needed - that this country's peace and stability are vocabularies that do not exist in their dictionaries,” added the Garissa Township MP.
Cord has been holding protests every Monday seeking the removal of IEBC top officials over claims of corruption, rigging and favouritism.
On Monday, three people died during the anti-IEBC protests in Siaya and Kisumu counties.
The Opposition called off the demos until June 5 to give room for dialogue.
Siaya Senator James Orengo and his Machakos counterpart during a news briefing in Nairobi on Wednesday, said they will resume their weekly Monday demos if Jubilee would not have heeded to Cord's call.
But in a quick rejoinder, Duale said the Jubilee coalition is ready for dialogue which must be done in Parliament.
“The 2010 progressive Constitution and the Elections Act outlines the steps clearly. If Cord was interested in discussions over the IEBC, dialogue has been on the table at the joint Justice and Legal Affairs committee of the National Assembly and Senate. The talks can begin now,” said Duale.
He said Cord knows what should be done if it has an issue with a commissioner or commissioners of the IEBC.
