National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has denied bribing voters during the August general election. In a sworn affidavit, Duale maintained that he won a free and fair manner.
This is after his arch-rival, Wiper Candidate Farah Maalim moved to court seeking for the nullification of the area’s parliamentary results. The vocal politician told the court that even supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) voted for him because of his impressive performance scoreboard.
“Even NASA supporters voted for me. I was re-elected because of my good track record. Claims that I bribed voters are false,” said Duale, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The lawmaker also dismissed speculations that he colluded with The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials to deny his opponent's victory.
“I am popular across Garissa Town constituency, therefore, I was not involved in the recruitment of the returning officers because that’s IEBC work,” he said.
Maalim wants the election annulled on the grounds that the exercise was marred by all sorts of illegalities and irregularities that saw lose to Duale, one of the strongest critics of the opposition.
