National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has said that Kenya is now acquainted on who its true allies are in the continent.
This is after the African Union vote saw Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed lose to Chad's Moussa Mahamat.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Duale observed that the country had learned lessons from the vote, adding that the country was going to focus on its true friends. "This election has taught us huge lessons. We now know who are our true friends in East Africa and Africa at large. We are going to look for friends who will put the interests of our people and our country first," he said.
Uganda, Burundi and Djibouti are some of the key East African nations and perceived allies to Kenya that failed to back Amina's bid in the seventh round.
Kenya reportedly spent about Ksh350million lobbying for the election of Amina.
The elections were held on Monday at the Africa Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
