National assembly majority leader Aden Duale has accused former deputy speaker Maalim of lying to Kenyans that he had recorded a statement at the director of criminal investigation over the incitement clip doing rounds on social media.
This is after Maalim stated that he had already recorded a statement with the police claiming that he has proof that it is Duale who made the inciting statements in the audio clip.
"He has been recalled to tell the country what he knows. It is very shameful for a leader who at one time was the deputy speaker to come to the media and address the media outside the CID headquarters and doesn’t have the courtesy to enter the CID and record a statement," said Duale.
Duale was speaking after recording a statement at the Director of Criminal Investigation headquarters over the audio Clip inciting Garissa residents not to allow people from the Kamba community to cross over and register as voters in Garissa.
The lawmaker has since denied being the speaker in the audio clip and he said that the audio is not credible since it does not have the time and venue recorded.
“This is the work of my competitors, they are using propaganda to look for political mileage in the 8th August general elections,” said Duale.
The NCIC launched investigations to uncover the voice behind the audio and its chairman Francis Ole Kaparo promised whoever is found guilty will be arrested and prosecuted.
