The political rivalry between National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale and former Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim was taken to another level after the duo differed on Thursday night at a peace meeting.
The two, who are contesting for the Garissa Township MP in the August general elections exchanged bitter words in what was expected to be a peace meeting.
Maalim launched a scathing attack on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as well as security agents in the region faulting them of attempting to subvert the will of the people as we draw closer to the election date.
The vocal politician said that there is a plot to rig the August polls. “Let’s not cheat one another that people fight over polls. The genesis of violence is those mandated to manage elections try to manipulate results by rigging and going against the will of the people,” he said, as quoted by Star.
Maalim, a close ally of former vice president Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, also said that he was aware of the plan that security agents and a section of IEBC officials who want to cause chaos when that time comes.
On his part, Duale took a swipe at Maalim saying that the electoral body does not vote but the people. He also said that Maalim has sensed defeat.
“My friend is preparing supporters psychologically for a loss by casting doubt on IEBC’s ability to carry out free, fair and credible polls. As Jubilee, we are prepared. If our competitors are not ready, they should tell Kenyans.”
