National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale has mourned Kenneth Matiba who died on Sunday at the Karen Hospital.
Mr Duale praised the late Matiba for his contribution towards making the second republic adding that he was a great leader.
“It is with profound grief and sorrow that I have learnt the untimely demise of a great leader Hon. Kenneth Matiba. He played a crucial role in the political development of the second liberation. May his soul rest in peace,” said Mr Duale on his twitter account.
Mr Matiba, aged 85, died while undergoing treatment at the Karen Hospital ICU in Nairobi after suffering from cardiac arrest.
Mr Matiba was arrested and detained for agitating for the return of multi-party democracy during former President Daniel arap Moi’s regime.
While in detention, Mr Matiba suffered a stroke but remained in custody without medical care.
The veteran politician will be remembered as a second liberation hero having been at the forefront in the fight for multi-party democracy in Kenya.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was among the leaders who visited Mr Matiba at the Karen Hospital.
