Speaking in Nairobi during the launching of a register of 5,000 women aspirants, Duale said that political party leaders are nominating their former girlfriends for the different positions at the expense of those who qualify for the same.

“Leaders of political parties were appointing their girlfriends,” said Duale, as quoted by NairobiNews.

Duale said that the new constitution had regulated these issues since it is required that those seeking these posts apply 45 days before the general polls.

“In 2013, some people were asking why can’t we nominate our people. But we said that should not happen,” he added.

His sentiments were backed by Pioneer woman leader Phoebe Asiyo who recalled how political leaders dished out these posts to the so called their ‘girlfriends’.

Nominated senators Elizabeth Ongoro and Betreace Elachi, however, rubbished Duale claims saying that they were baseless.

Ong’oro affirmed that she was chosen not because she is a girlfriend to any leader in her political party.

“Stop this thing of packaging nominated senators, MPs and MCAs as being girlfriends of someone,” said Ong’oro.
