The Law Society of Kenya has condemned remarks made by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale against High Court Judge Justice George Odunga. S
peaking on Thursday shortly before Justice Odunga making a ruling on an application by the opposition challenging changes to negotiated electoral laws, Duale accused the High Court Judge of “tribal politics” and being partisan.
In a quick rejoinder, the LSK through its President Isaack Okero cautioned Duale against interfering with the independence of the Judiciary.
“It is an attack on the independence of the judiciary and on the integrity of the honourable judge and an abuse of parliamentary privilege. It is conduct completely untenable in any civilised democracy,” Okero said.
“His exercise of judicial authority is undertaken on behalf of the people of the Republic and therefore cannot and should not be subjected to any impediment of any nature,” he added.
