National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale has hailed opposition leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta for their reconciliation on Friday.
Addressing the press from the parliament buildings in Nairobi, hours after the surprise union, Duale said that as a boss in the legislative house, the reconciliation has a direct impact on his job.
Coming at a time when most of the opposition lawmakers have been boycotting parliamentary sittings and functions, under the order of Odinga and his National Super Alliance (NASA) co-heads, in retaliation to the ruling Jubilee's initial refusal to grant the opposition's demand for national dialogue, Duale expressed hope that the newfound friendship between the two will reverse the situation.
''As a leader in the National Assembly, I now look forward to seeing our opposition counterparts attend sittings and get fully involved in parliamentary functions,'' said Duale.
The two decided to bury their rivalry after a meeting that was held at President Kenyatta's offices in Harambee House in Nairobi, a convention that also saw the sworn-rivals pledge to together reunite the nation.
The Garissa Town lawmaker also went ahead to laud Odinga terming him a true leader.
''I have been in the Orange Party before and I have worked with Raila Odinga and can testify that he is a considerate man to whom the country's interests come first,'' he added.
