According to Duale, the leaders were responsible for selecting Wafula Chebukati as the chair of IEBC and his six commissioners.

Speaking to CitizenTv on Tuesday, Duale dubbed them as the “worst product,” .

Duale said that religious leaders were part of the selection panel that constituted IEBC.

On Monday, three commissioners resigned citing lack of trust in Chebukati. Since then Chebukati has been under immense pressure to step down.

“The mistake we made was when we diverted from the legal framework put in place after new constitution on the process of constituting a new IEBC commission,” said Duale.

Duale has joined other leaders in calling for the resignation of Chebukati and the remaining commissioners.

“The country went out and let the religious leaders to constitute a commission, in my honest opinion, that is where we made a mistake and got the worst product, Chebukati and his team. Chebukati was fronted by religious leaders and a number of us were against it," said Duale.
