Garisa Township Member of Parliament, Aden Duale, on Wednesday toured the 50 MW Solar Plant in Raya, Garisa County.
The Majority leader was accompanied by Energy cabinet secretary Charles Keter, Energy PS Dr. Engineer Joseph Njoroge and Energy Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Prof. Collette Suda.
According to Mr. Duale, the Solar Plant is expected to generate electricity that will not only serve Garisa and its environs but also connected to the national grid.
The project is set to open up the area for more economic developments.
"This will open up Garisa county which is the economic hub of the Northern Eastern Region by enhancing economic development through boosting business and other economic activities," said Duale through his tweet.
The project which is expected to be complete by September 2018 will diversify the power generation mix from renewable sources of energy.
The project is expected to benefit the locals in several ways including creation of jobs and connecting many homes to electricity.
Duale promised connection of more houses to electricity in the near future.
"Over 77 pastoralists houses will be connected to electricity by 12th April, 2018 in Mbalambala, Kuro village. We launched water supply to the centre and we build a modern mosque with fully fledged Madarasa.
"Kone and Muddy centre will be electrified within the next 10 days under Last Mile Connectivity Programme." promised Mr. Duale.
